The garden shed
Oil on canvas, 27/35 cm, 2024
This painting depicts the garden of my mother-in-law at her home in Wellington, New Zealand.
It shows a vibrant and lush space in front of a small garden shed. I was inspired by the love and care poured into this garden, how it feels both tended and wild, full of life and character.
Though small, the garden is incredibly productive, offering an abundance of food: various lettuces, carrots, herbs, strawberries, and more. Among the vegetables, a profusion of tiny flowers in red, white, purple, and blue bloom throughout, and I wanted to capture their delicate presence in this piece.
For me, the painting evokes a deep sense of peace, a quiet rhythm of gardening and a strong connection to nature. It is a personal and nostalgic reflection of that cherished place.
