About the series

This series of four paintings is a kind of tribute to the gardens and wild patches I’ve come across around Grenoble. All of them are real places I walk by often.

I worked in an impressionist style, using thick, layered brushstrokes to try and capture the energy and movement of leaves and flowers rather than every detail. What draws me in each time is the way colors seem to shift and vibrate in a nature — nothing is ever still and light changes everything.

Each painting has its own mood. One is full of purples and deep blues, evoking hydrangea bushes; another bursts with the warm reds and golds of poppies and tiny garden flowers. They’re all about that feeling of being surrounded — immersed, even — in the warm atmosphere of a sunlit footpath on a hot day.

It’s my way of translating those quiet moments outdoors into paint.
